Jim works in concert with his team members Brad Jenson (CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™) and
Andrea Goritchan (Securities Registered (Series 7 & 63) Client Services Manager). Supported by the vast resources of Raymond James, Jim, Brad and Andrea provide their clients integrated investment management and financial planning, without the influences often associated with working directly at large brokerage firms.
Jim’s passion for helping others in a very personalized manner and deep interest for investments served as the catalyst for his career in financial services. He has served clients for over 30 years, developing personalized investment strategies and managing investment portfolios. Jim is an Accredited Investment Fiduciary®, a Registered Principal (Series 24), and has General Securities Representative (Series 7), and
Uniform Investment Advisor (Series 65) licenses. In addition, he is licensed in Life and Health Insurance (MN).
Jim started his career in financial services in 1993 as a Financial Advisor with Smith Barney (now Morgan Stanley) immediately upon completion of his Finance degree from the University of Minnesota-Duluth. During his years at Smith Barney Jim gained valuable experience helping his clients through various market conditions, all the while keeping focus on their long-term financial plans. Jim’s extensive experience has guided clients through three (3) bull markets, two (2) bear markets, two (2) economic recessions and five (5) presidential administrations, thus far.
Amidst the financial crisis it became clear to Jim that eliminating corporate pressures and gaining significant flexibility was required to help his clients ensure their futures and future generations to come. In 2009, after exhaustive firm due diligence, Jim fulfilled his vision of creating Lake Superior Financial Services, Inc.; LSFS, Inc. is an independent practice in relationship with the reputable investment firm of Raymond James headquartered in St. Petersburg, FL.
Jim is active in giving back to the local community. He currently serves as Treasurer and board member of the Holy Rosary Endowment. He has also served as board member for St. Ann’s Residence in Duluth, Board Chair of the Benedictine Health Center Foundation, board member of the Essentia Foundation Finance Board (formerly Benedictine Health System), board member of the Cathedral of Our Lady of The Rosary Finance Committee and board member for Goodwill Industries-Duluth. He is proud to call himself a Rotarian (and Paul Harris Fellow), a member of the Duluth Chamber of Commerce, proud parishioner of the Cathedral Our Lady of The Rosary, and active member of the Knights of Columbus (3rd Degree, Council 15761).
Along with his wife Heather and daughter Braelyn, and their dog Finnley, they call beautiful Duluth home. In his free time Jim enjoys spending time at the cabin, travel, downhill skiing, and most of all spending time with family and friends. The most significant activity for Jim, Heather and Braelyn is giving thanks to Our Lord and Savior for the many blessings in their lives.
